Release lessons over time

Available on the Business plan.

By default, a student can open every lesson of your course as soon as they get access. Two settings change that, and you can use them together: a delay on a lesson, and an order to follow for the whole course.

  1. In the course editor, click the lesson in the left menu.

  2. Below the lesson’s Downloads, turn on Delayed unlock. The lesson then opens 7 days after each student gets access to the course.

  3. To change the delay, type a number of days (from 1 to 365) in the field next to days, then click elsewhere. The line above shows the result, like “Available 3 days after enrollment”.

The delay counts from the day each student got access: a student who buys today and another who buys next month don’t see the lesson open on the same day. Changes are saved as you go.

  1. Click Settings at the top right of the editor, then click the Options tab.

  2. Turn on Sequential unlocking. Students then have to finish each lesson, by clicking its Complete and continue button, to open the next one. You can rename that button in the next step.

  3. Optional: in Button label, change the text of the button students click to finish a lesson and go to the next one. It’s Complete and continue by default.

In the lesson, turn off Lesson published. The line then says Draft, hidden from your students, and the lesson has a Draft tag. Your students don’t see it at all, and it doesn’t count in their progress. A module with no published lesson doesn’t show either. Turn the switch back on to publish the lesson.

  • In the course menu, a locked lesson shows a lock.
  • On the home page of the course, a locked module shows the date it opens, or which module to finish first.
  • When they open a locked lesson, they read Lesson locked, with the date it opens or a message asking them to finish the previous lesson first.

Your students see the course space in their browser’s language (English or French).
