Turn on payments with Stripe
To sell paid products, connect a Stripe account to Shoplit. Stripe is the payment company that takes your buyers’ card payments and sends the money to your bank account.
-
In the left menu, open Settings, then the Payments tab.
-
In Your business country, choose the country where you or your business are based.
-
Click Connect my payments. Stripe opens in a new tab. If your browser blocks the new tab, Stripe opens in the current tab instead.
-
Follow Stripe’s steps to the end. Stripe asks for your details, an ID document and the bank account where you want to receive your money. This is Stripe’s own identity check: Shoplit can’t fill it in for you.
-
When Stripe sends you back to Shoplit, open Settings, then Payments again (reload the page if you still see the form). When it shows Payments enabled, buyers can pay you.
Stopped halfway or stuck in the Stripe form?
Section titled “Stopped halfway or stuck in the Stripe form?”Until you finish Stripe’s steps, buyers can’t pay: the checkout says payment isn’t available, and the Payments tab shows that setup is in progress. It offers two buttons:
- Resume setup opens Stripe’s form again, so you can finish it.
- Start over (change country) deletes this unfinished Stripe account so you can start again from scratch, for example after picking the wrong country or email.
Once payments are on, both buttons disappear.
The verification form belongs to Stripe and shows on Stripe’s site: Shoplit can’t fill it in or approve it for you. For a question about a field, like your ID document, VAT number, minimum age, bank account or business description, ask Stripe’s support. Shoplit doesn’t give tax or legal advice.
When do you get your money?
Section titled “When do you get your money?”The money from each sale goes straight to your Stripe account, not to a Shoplit account: you are the seller. Shoplit only takes its commission, if your plan has one, at the moment of the sale.
Stripe then sends the money to your bank account on its own payout schedule. Your very first payouts take longer than the next ones.
To see your sales and payouts, click Manage in the Payments tab: it opens your Stripe account. You can also use the Stripe app or dashboard.stripe.com.
Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna
Section titled “Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna”Shoplit doesn’t impose a list of payment methods: your buyers pay on your own Stripe account, and Stripe offers the methods turned on there.
- On a standard Stripe account (the case for recent accounts), you turn Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and the other methods on or off in your Stripe dashboard, in the payment methods settings. Manage, in the Payments tab, takes you there.
- On an older Express account, the Stripe space is simpler. If you can’t find this setting there, Switch to a full Stripe account, in the same tab, gives you a standard account without stopping your sales.
Stripe only shows each buyer the methods that suit their country, the currency, the amount and their device: Apple Pay only shows on an Apple device, for example. On a funnel with a one-click offer after payment, Stripe may hide the methods that can’t charge the buyer a second time.
Your country isn’t in the list?
Section titled “Your country isn’t in the list?”The Your business country list follows the countries Stripe supports. If yours isn’t there, there is no workaround today: you can’t take paid sales on Shoplit.
Shoplit only takes payments through Stripe, so Stripe’s coverage decides the list. The team can’t open Stripe to a country it doesn’t cover, and there is no other payment service for now, like a separate PayPal account or mobile payment.
The country of a Stripe account can’t be changed once payments are on. Before that, Start over (change country) lets you start again from scratch with another country.
You can still use Shoplit to create your products and your storefront, and to give products away for free (a free product doesn’t need Stripe).
Disconnect Stripe
Section titled “Disconnect Stripe”To stop selling with Shoplit, or to remove Shoplit from your Stripe account, open Settings, then Payments, and click Disconnect Stripe, under the green Payments enabled banner. Confirm in the window that opens.
You can’t do it from Stripe: your account was opened from Shoplit, and Stripe doesn’t let its owner remove the platform that created it.
- Your pages no longer accept payments until you connect an account again.
- On a standard Stripe account (recent accounts), Shoplit no longer has any access. Your account, your money and your history stay yours.
- An older Stripe Express account, used only for Shoplit, is closed. Before that, use Manage to keep what you need. If there is still money on it, wait for your next payout, then try again.
Deleting your Shoplit account also disconnects Stripe.
