Organize your contacts with tags
A tag is a label you choose, like “VIP customers” or “March webinar”. Put it on your contacts to sort them, then show only those contacts, send them a campaign, or start an automation when someone gets the tag.
Create a tag
Section titled “Create a tag”-
In the left menu, open Marketing > Tags.
-
Type a name in New tag name, then click Create.
Each tag in the list shows how many contacts have it. Click Rename to change its name, or Delete to remove the tag: your contacts are kept.
Two tags can’t have the same name, even with different capital letters: Shoplit then shows A tag with this name already exists. under the field.
On the Free plan, you can create up to 3 tags. On the Pro and Business plans, you can create as many as you like.
Tag one contact
Section titled “Tag one contact”- In Marketing > Contacts, click Open on the line of the contact.
- In the Tags card, click a tag with a + to add it. To take a tag off, click the x next to its name.
Tag several contacts at once
Section titled “Tag several contacts at once”-
In Marketing > Contacts, tick the box at the start of each line you want. The box above the list ticks every line shown. When your list is long, the bar that appears also offers Select all followed by a number: click it to pick every contact that matches your filters and your search.
-
In that bar, open Apply a tag and choose the tag. The bar then confirms how many contacts got it.
Import contacts with a tag
Section titled “Import contacts with a tag”-
In Marketing > Contacts, click Import.
-
Click Download an example to get a CSV file with the right columns: an email column, then first name and last name columns. Fill it in with Excel or Google Sheets, then save it as a CSV file.
-
Drag and drop your file in the window, or click or choose a file. The window shows how many rows it found.
-
To tag everyone in the file, choose a tag in Apply a tag (optional). This menu shows up once you have at least one tag.
-
Tick I confirm these contacts consented to receive my emails., then click Import.
The window then tells you how many contacts were imported, how many lines had an invalid email, and how many duplicates in your file were skipped. Click Done.
Imported contacts are Subscribed, so only import people who agreed to get your emails. A contact who unsubscribed stays Unsubscribed, even if you import them again.
To add a single person, click Add a contact, fill in Email, First name and Last name, tick I confirm this person consented to receive my emails., then click Add.
Use your tags
Section titled “Use your tags”- Filter your list: next to the filter buttons in Contacts, the Tag menu shows only the contacts that have a tag. It appears once you have created a tag.
- Send a campaign to a group: in the Audience of a campaign, click a tag to send it only to the subscribed contacts that have it. See Send an email campaign.
- Start an automation: an automation with the Tag added trigger starts when a contact gets that tag, from you or from Shoplit. Inside an automation, a condition can check whether a contact has a tag, and the Add tag and Remove tag blocks tag contacts for you. See Automations and abandoned cart.
Shoplit also tags some contacts for you. A quiz funnel tags each visitor with their profile, a form in your funnel can add the tag you picked in its settings, and adding a student to a video course tags them with a tag built from the course name.
How many contacts you can have
Section titled “How many contacts you can have”The contacts you import or add by hand count toward a limit: 2,500 on the Free plan, 10,000 on Pro and 25,000 on Business. Once you reach it, Import and Add a contact are refused (an import that would go over the limit is refused as a whole), and the forms in your funnels stop adding new visitors. Your buyers and the people who download your free products are always added.
